What is the origination and meaning of your logo?
The Austin Gamblers were born from the rich history of Texas mixed with a shot of folk legend. Inspired by the notorious high-profile gangsters of the 1920-30s and old west folk legends like Wild Bill Hickok, our spirit of grit & resolve was forged. For the visual identity of the brand, we wanted to create an iconic character that represented the intensity, competitive spirit and physical, mental toughness of our team. The shield in our logo acts as a hedge of protection around our riders. The skull of a cowboy and the “Dead Man’s Hand” references the logo’s inspiration,Wild Bill Hickok, and the final pair of cards he is rumored to have held. This character speaks to the passion and the lifelong commitment our riders have made to their sport. It’s a way of life and a calling that we celebrate every day
What is the difference between PRCA and PBR?
The PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) is the traditional, all-encompassing rodeo organization for multiple events, while the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) is a separate, more modern league focused exclusively on bull riding, known for bigger production, higher payouts, and a different format, with riders often choosing one or both paths depending on their goals, though the PBR's show-focused, bull-centric events contrast with PRCA's broader rodeo tradition.
Where is Gambler Days held and when?
Gambler Days is held annually in August at the Moody Center near the University of Texas campus. The event usually falls on the 3rd full weekend of the month, and is a Friday, Saturday, Sunday event for all ages.
Where do I buy tickets, when do they go on sale and other ticket-related facts you can share?
Tickets go on sale in mid to late winter (November or December) for the following year. Tickets are available for purchase through our website (here) in the SHOP tab and directly through Ticketmaster.com. Tickets are all-inclusive of Fan Fest (held prior to the PBR bull riding action inside Moody Center), outdoor festival and events and the PBR Bull Riding performance inside. If post-event entertainment occurs, your ticket is also valid for that as well.
How is the rider scored?
Each PBR ride is worth up to 100 points – 50 points for the bull, and 50 points for the rider if he successfully rides the bull for 8 seconds. Four judges award up to 25 points each to the rider and the bull. All four of the judges’ scores are combined and then divided by two for the official score.
How many riders/rides can I expect to see at the event?
Each regular season event will feature the teams competing in head-to-head games against another team in a 5 rider vs. 5 rider match-up. During each round of an event, a given team will compete in one game against another team. Each of the five selected riders on a team will attempt one bull each (excluding any re-ride attempts) and the total aggregate score of the five riders on a team will determine win, loss, or tie in that game.
Is the event indoors or outdoors?
While the large majority of the event is INDOORS (Moody Center), our Fan Fest (featuring booths, interactive exhibits and displays, drinks and games, live music on the outdoor stage and more) are all held OUTDOORS in the plaza area of Moody Center leading up to the main event inside Moody Center. Doors to the event open 1 hour and 30 min. prior to event start time. Entry to use public restrooms prior to doors open is allowed.
Where do I park for the event?
Moody Center has a garage (Manor Garage) adjacent to the building and both surface parking and garage parking is available at many nearby public garages and lots. While parking is available, we do recommend you carpool or use RideShare apps if possible. Additional info on all Moody Center parking options and a parking map can be found HERE What is the history of Austin Gamblers and PBR Teams?
